I have now been married for over one and a half years and I still don't feel like I have any girlfriends. The only people I go shopping with or eat out with are my husband and family. I mean a have a couple of co-workers that I'm close to but nothing like I use to. I often think of you, Em, and Delyse and really miss that.Stephaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00051373574352769040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2963254704638073232.post-53521130358279777582008-11-11T20:31:00.000-05:002008-11-11T20:31:00.000-05:00You're not alone. It's hard to find a good friend (especially one who won't talk your ear entirely off about nothing while she's sitting in the airport).

I've learned a lot from Christopher, actually. One of his friends called him a "barger." He just barges into other people's lives: he asks people to use their talents to help him, or he invites them to dinner, or to a book sale, or he visits them unannounced. He insists that people be part of his life, which I'm not very good at.

And while people sometimes look like they don't know how to react (and I get all awkward and embarrassed and tell him to stop bothering), it turns out that everyone wants to feel included, needed, or thought of.

I wish I could sit on your couch and see your shoes; I would certainly compliment both. I'm grateful that you've always been a good friend, even from far away.kathy w.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03434629568277896345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2963254704638073232.post-39117493128899531942008-11-11T12:28:00.000-05:002008-11-11T12:28:00.000-05:00dej, every time my situation/surroundings change, ...dej, every time my situation/surroundings change, i go through that same thing.

it's hard to find people that you really click with, which makes them even more valuable when you do find them. i've had long stretches of time where i don't feel like i have anyone i can talk to about the little things. it's sad.

i guess i really don't have advice. i can only offer commiseration.

so sorry you're having a hard time.edenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13740761957547793058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2963254704638073232.post-26210182930037072432008-11-11T12:06:00.000-05:002008-11-11T12:06:00.000-05:00I don't have any answers, but I don't think you're...I don't have any answers, but I don't think you're abnormal. I'm a socially awkward extremely introverted person who has anxiety issues when someone wants to talk to me beyond basic social politeness. I'm best friends with my sisters. I sometimes make good friends with Jill's friends. And I can make friends on my own, but only when I'm thrown into a situation where it's impossible to avoid social interaction. Like, being someone's roommate, or hiking through England in the same stinky clothes for 7 weeks. :)Jamiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04148551852721601484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2963254704638073232.post-20759373645288543362008-11-11T10:42:00.000-05:002008-11-11T10:42:00.000-05:00I think Meesha is the friend expert, you should li...I think Meesha is the friend expert, you should listen to her. What she told ME, is that it IS like courting. You ask them to do something, or call them, and it's like asking someone on a date. Rejection feelings will be there, psycho feelings will be there, but you work through it, and get a good friend as a reward. I've done it in this ward finally, but it took some WORK. You've got to take risks, and sometimes it's painful, but it's worth it. Girlfriends fulfill a basic female need I think.Amarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16851705755045197778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2963254704638073232.post-55050835116505886412008-11-11T10:03:00.000-05:002008-11-11T10:03:00.000-05:00P.S. She never had any friends, just Dad and her kids. I have a couple of friends I really like. I feel like I had to court them though. I am not sure of the answer, maybe I didn't have a comment.
I do have to say though, I haven't been able to sleep all night I am so scarred of this little girl in my belly. I am worried I will screw her up.Kirahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01790243765341043864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2963254704638073232.post-12025906894501942622008-11-11T03:34:00.000-05:002008-11-11T03:34:00.000-05:00I told you already, the girl in the airports friend...I told you already, the girl in the airports friend on the other line was yawning. Some friends do all of the talking and none of the listening. A good friend is hard to come by, very hard. You are lucky to have Arin! We all wish we could have these friends next door. The people I have always most wanted to be friends with in a new place scared me the most too. The more you talk, the better it gets. The more you uncover about their reality of "life is hard", the more you will relax and enjoy your friendship. You are a great friend.Meeshabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13525152107750444414noreply@blogger.com
